The Challenge

Traditional formal cultures aren’t working anymore. The focus on competition, perfection, power and control creates rigidity and a reliance on compliance leading to a lack of empowerment, creativity and engagement. Which is why traditional culture change approaches aren’t working anymore either.

Many leaders are not only unsure of what it takes to make culture change stick, they aren’t able to articulate what the purpose of the business is beyond profit in a way that fully engages their people. Without this focus and clarity, they can’t expect their people to follow them or their customers to want to connect and buy.

The Solution

Culture = Alignment + Values x Behaviour

It is only when we take your values off the coffee mug and down from the wall and begin to engage with them and use them in all you do that you can begin say you have a strong corporate culture. The Conscious Culture Program uses tried and tested techniques that any leader and manager can learn and implement to help ensure values and behaviors are embedded and align across the board.

The program’s approach is built as an ongoing behavior change program that leads your leaders and their teams through a series of 10 degree shifts generally over a six month period. The result is a freedom culture of high performance that grows your people and your business at the same time.

How it Works

This shift by shift approach in the program is designed specifically to make the creation of a conscious culture simple, sustainable and powerful. So rather than making radical changes upfront, your leaders, middle managers and supervisors to work through the change process bit by bit, one week and one shift at a time. Just like investing with compound interest works gradually over time, the shifts seem small but the outcomes are remarkable.

Program Length

The program runs over a period of six months and includes three key phases enabling the organization to invest in the program in full or phase by phase as they move through all four quadrants of the Culture Code Simplex – a proprietary approach to permanent culture change. AJ says that culture change won’t happen overnight, but it will happen in six months.

There are also two key reasons why I don’t recommend massive, one-off radical change nor give you, your executives, managers or employees all the changes and everything to do up front. These reasons include:

  1. It becomes a mountain too big to climb because if you saw all you have to change upfront you might feel it is just too much to change. Instead by doing a series of small 10 degree shifts and commitments over the six months things become more flexible and easy, which helps all your people build self-esteem and confidence that they’re sticking to the program and can make change happen. Shift upon shift you and your people build strength, capacity and resilience to adapt to and deal with all the changes.

  2. When all the shifts and changes are shared upfront there are always people and teams that are little over zealous who will want to jump in and make all the shifts immediately rather than in a slow and sustained way. While they make the shifts, the benefits may only last for a short while like weeks, days or hours which is how the traditional culture change programs worked. This approach doesn’t create lasting change and so the following year they are back introducing another plan, hiring another consultant or launching the next big intervention or change program. The benefit of the 10 degree shift approach and its small, consistent shifts is that there is time to build momentum and create common language and community around the process and in doing so you increase the long term impact.

AJ has tested many of the approaches to culture change and has found that the use of focused, aligned, consistent shifts proves the most effective to produce positive change, with massive impact, for the largest number of people, in the shortest period of time.

Culture change won’t happen overnight but it will happen in just six months.
