Self-Mastery: Simple Tips

Did you know that 80 per cent of a person’s success comes from having the right mindset in place? Or that the majority of people believe in order to make shift happen you have to make radical changes?

If you really want to reduce friction and increase flow, reduce overwhelm and increase joy, do less and achieve more all you need to do is turn inward and make some small, consistent 10° shifts and change really can become permanent.

Too often we fall into the trap of playing a short-term external game to achieve our goals, we hustle and grind, we compare and cajole, we overshare and overwork. Sadly, this usually results in us becoming worn, dry and crispy rather than whole, vibrant and juicy.

The concept of Do less. Achieve more is a bit like “Luminosity for your habits”. Instead by turning inward and playing what Simon Sinek terms an “infinite game” we begin to consciously create a life that is more joyful, UPlifting and alive.

By learning to manage energy not time, shifting our mindset, minimalizing distractions and black holes and focusing on our meteor rocks, not our pebbles we can get 30 per cent more productivity with 10 per cent less effort.

The key to this shift is to approach it from the middle out. Working on our Mindset, Minimalizing the unproductive, restrictive and depleting habits and introducing productive, energy restoring practices that will lead to greater self-mastery.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” - Aristotle

Here are three simple shifts to get you started so you can become your own master and stay out of the rat race:

1 - Mindset - Turn down the volume on your inner critic – is that inner voice overwhelming you? Try turning down and tuning out the self-doubting inner chatter, it’s distracting and distractions zap valuable time and energy – your two most valuable resources.

2 - Minimalism - Minimalise attention thieves – create a blank homepage on your computer and move your apps to the second page on your smart phone so that anytime to unlock or log in you see a clean screen with a beautiful or inspiring image.  You’ll be less distracted by attention grabbing notifications that drag you down into the black hole of time wasting.

3 - Mastery - Manage energy not time – you need energy for everything you do, yet most people are running on an empty tank and trying to squeeze out every drop. Check your actions regularly – are they draining you, sustaining you or energising you? Most adults today are sleep, nutrition and oxygen depleted. Taking regular breaks, getting enough sleep, eating nutrient dense food, undertaking regular exercise and having a daily personal breathing practice are not just nice to haves, they are critical parts of a selfcare plan.
